Got a .mid file but no software that plays MIDI? Drop it here and listen. The tool fully parses Standard MIDI Files (SMF type 0 and type 1) in your browser, handling tempo changes, time signatures, running status, SysEx and the sustain pedal, then plays them through a built-in Web Audio synth that approximates each General MIDI instrument family — piano, electric piano, organ, guitar, bass, string pads, brass, woodwinds and synths — with a synthesized drum kit on channel 10. A color-coded piano roll follows the playhead, and clicking anywhere jumps there. The parts list shows each track’s name, GM instrument, channel, note count and range, with mute and solo for transcribing or practising along. Change the speed from 0.25× to 2× and transpose ±12 semitones, and check the file’s format, track count, total notes, duration, tempo and tempo changes, time signature and key signature. When you need audio, the current mix — mute/solo, speed and transpose included — renders offline to a WAV download. Files stay on your device.

## How to use

1. Choose or drop a .mid / .midi / .kar file (or try the sample tune first)
2. Press play and follow the notes in the piano roll; mute or solo parts, change speed or transpose
3. Click Export WAV to render and download the current mix

## FAQ

### Why does it sound different from other players?

A MIDI file only stores which notes play, when and how hard; the sound comes from the player’s instruments. This player uses a lightweight GM-style synth generated in the browser rather than a sample library hundreds of megabytes in size, so the timbres are simpler than a pro sound module, but melody, harmony and rhythm are exact.

### Can I convert MIDI to MP3?

Export a WAV first, then use the site’s Audio Converter to turn it into MP3, M4A or another format. The WAV reflects your current mute/solo, speed and transpose settings, so you can export just the backing track without the melody, for example.

### What’s the difference between type 0 and type 1 MIDI?

Type 0 stores every channel in a single track, while type 1 gives each instrument its own track plus a tempo track. Both open normally. Parts are split by track and channel, so different instruments in a type 0 file can still be muted and soloed individually. Rare type 2 files are read sequentially.

### The file won’t open — what now?

Make sure it is a real Standard MIDI File (it starts with MThd); some downloads named .mid are actually web pages or other formats. Older files with broken structure, such as wrong track lengths or missing end markers, are read as far as possible with a warning, and RIFF-wrapped .rmi files are recognized too.
