Hum a tune you can’t get out of your head, or turn an a cappella, harmonica or violin recording into MIDI you can edit. This tool runs YIN pitch detection frame by frame in your browser and combines it with spectral-flux onset detection to cut the continuous pitch curve into notes: vibrato and slides stay in one note, the same pitch sung several times in a row is split correctly, and an overall tuning offset (say, singing along to a 432 Hz track) is corrected automatically. It then detects the key and can snap out-of-key notes into the scale, estimates the tempo and quantizes to a quarter, eighth, sixteenth or triplet grid, and takes each note’s velocity from its loudness. Results appear in a piano roll with the raw pitch drawn as an orange line: drag notes to change time and pitch, drag the right edge to resize, double-click to add, press Delete to remove, and play the original audio against the synthesized melody. Pick a GM instrument and export a standard MIDI file ready for GarageBand, FL Studio, MuseScore and more. Monophonic audio only — isolate the vocal from full songs first. Audio is processed locally and never uploaded.

## How to use

1. Choose a humming, singing or single-instrument recording, or try the sample
2. Tune range, shortest note and confidence, and optionally enable key snapping and quantize
3. Audition and edit notes in the piano roll, pick an instrument and export the .mid file

## Features

- YIN pitch tracking with spectral-flux onset detection
- Vibrato and slides kept whole; repeated notes split
- Automatic tuning-offset correction
- Key detection and snap-to-scale
- Tempo estimate and grid quantize
- Editable piano roll with original vs synth playback
- Standard MIDI with tempo, time and key signature

## FAQ

### Can it transcribe songs with backing music or piano pieces?

No. It transcribes a single melody line, one note at a time. Songs with accompaniment, chords or two-handed piano produce messy results. Isolate the vocal first with the site’s Vocal Remover, or record a clean hum or a cappella take.

### Notes come out chopped up or missing. What should I change?

If notes are chopped up, raise the note-change threshold (especially with wide vibrato), lower the repeated-note sensitivity and increase the shortest note. If notes are missing, lower the pitch confidence threshold and the silence gate. Recording close to the mic in a quiet room helps a lot.

### What do quantize and key snapping do?

Sung rhythm and pitch are never perfectly exact. Quantize moves note starts and ends onto a quarter, eighth, sixteenth or triplet grid so the MIDI lines up with your DAW’s metronome; key snapping moves out-of-key notes to the nearest scale tone, which helps with slightly off-pitch humming. Both are optional and quantize strength is adjustable.

### Which apps can open the exported MIDI?

It’s a standard MIDI file (SMF type 1) with tempo, a 4/4 time signature, key signature and your chosen GM instrument, so it opens in GarageBand, Logic, FL Studio, Cubase, Ableton Live, MuseScore and other DAWs and notation apps. You can also preview it in the site’s MIDI Player.
