Line art extraction finds the outlines in an image and produces black lines on white — print it as a colouring page for kids, or use it as a tracing guide or craft and embroidery pattern. The tool uses difference-of-Gaussians edge detection, comparing the image at two blur levels and drawing a line on the dark side of each edge, which gives continuous lines of even weight. Pre-smoothing wipes out fine textures such as skin and grass, and speck removal deletes stray dots for a cleaner page. Line thickness and detail are adjustable, the line colour is up to you, and you can export lines only on a transparent PNG. Cartoons, illustrations and photos with clear outlines work best.

Photo to Sketch keeps shading and looks like a pencil drawing. Line art keeps only the outlines with no shading, which suits colouring and tracing.

### The lines from my photo are messy — what now?

Raise pre-smoothing and speck removal and lower detail. You can also remove a busy background first with the Remove Background tool.

### Are my files uploaded?
