Need to know whether a file is H.264 or HEVC, its resolution and frame rate, how high the bitrate is, whether it is HDR, or how many audio and subtitle tracks it has? This is an online MediaInfo / ffprobe: FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly reads the file headers in your browser and produces a full technical report. The General section covers file size, container (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI…), duration, overall bitrate and a stream summary. Video streams list codec, profile and level (parsed from the SPS/VPS parameter sets), resolution, sample and display aspect ratios, average and base frame rate, pixel format and bit depth, color range, matrix, primaries and transfer characteristics, with hints for HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and MaxCLL; phone videos also show rotation metadata and the actual display size. Audio streams list codec, sample rate, channel count and layout, sample format, bitrate and language, and you also get subtitle tracks, attachments, chapters, every metadata tag, and whether this browser can play the file natively. Files are mounted through WORKERFS instead of being copied into memory, so multi-gigabyte movies report in seconds. Drop in several files at once, then export TXT or JSON or copy the text.

## How to use

1. Upload one or more videos (audio files work too)
2. Click Read media info — each file’s report appears in seconds
3. Switch between files, copy the text, or download the TXT / JSON report

## FAQ

### How does this compare to MediaInfo or ffprobe?

The data comes from the same FFmpeg parser ffprobe uses, plus a pass over the video parameter sets for level, bit depth and HDR mastering data, grouped MediaInfo-style. It runs in the browser with nothing to install and works on phones; a few MediaInfo-only fields, such as encoder settings strings, may not appear.

### How can I tell if a video is HDR?

Check the video stream’s transfer characteristics: smpte2084 means PQ (HDR10 / Dolby Vision) and arib-std-b67 means HLG. BT.2020 primaries with 10-bit depth are also typical of HDR. The HDR hints row states the conclusion and lists mastering luminance and MaxCLL / MaxFALL when present.

### Why does the resolution differ from how the video plays?

Phone videos shot in portrait are usually stored as landscape frames with rotation metadata telling players to rotate them by 90°. The report shows the stored resolution, the rotation angle and the resulting display size; the Browser playback row shows the rotated size.

### Is it slow for large files? Are they uploaded?

No and no. Only the headers and the first frame’s parameter sets are read, and the file is mounted rather than copied, so multi-GB videos usually report in a few seconds. Everything is parsed locally; the tool is free with no sign-up.
