### Why use animated WebP instead of GIF?

GIF allows at most 256 colors per frame, so gradients and photos show banding and noise, and files are large. Animated WebP supports full color and transparency, and with lossy compression the same clip is usually 50–80% smaller than a GIF. Tick the GIF comparison to see the real difference for your clip.

### Where can animated WebP be displayed?

All modern browsers — Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 14 and later — support it, and so do apps such as Telegram, Discord and WeChat. A few older programs and forums only accept GIF; for those, use the site’s Video to GIF tool.

### Why is there no animated AVIF option?

Animated AVIF needs an AV1 encoder, and the browser build of FFmpeg used here doesn’t include one, so the tool hides the option rather than letting the export fail. Animated WebP is currently the best balance of compatibility and size.

### The file is too large. What can I do?

Resolution and frame count matter most: a width of 320–480 px, 10–12 fps and a shorter clip shrink the file several times over. Quality comes next — 60–75 rarely looks different. APNG and lossless WebP are very large and best kept for short UI captures or pixel art.
