👤Avatar Generator - Initials, Identicon & Geometric Avatars
Create default avatars for a website, app, contact list or team page. Initials avatars read the name for you: Latin names use the first letters of the first and last name (Jane Doe becomes JD), email addresses use the part before the @, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean names use the last one or two characters — the given name rather than the family name. The background color comes from a hash of the name, so the same name always gets the same color; you can also fix the color, add a gradient, and the text automatically switches between white and dark for contrast. Identicon mode works like GitHub’s default avatars: the SHA-256 hash of the text decides a mirrored 5×5 pixel pattern and its color, so a username always maps to the same identicon. Geometric mode turns a name into a small Bauhaus-style composition of rectangles, circles and triangles. Choose circle, rounded or square, sizes from 64 to 2048 px, and export transparent PNG or vector SVG. Paste a list of names to generate them all at once and download a ZIP.

FAQ
- Why do Chinese names show the last two characters?
- In Chinese names the family name comes first and the last one or two characters are the given name, which tells apart people who share a surname. If you prefer a single character, switch the CJK option to the last character.
- How are identicons generated?
- The text is trimmed and lowercased, then hashed with SHA-256. The first 15 bytes switch the cells of the left three columns on or off, which are mirrored into a symmetric 5×5 pattern, and the color also comes from the hash — so the same text always gives the same identicon.
- Can I use the avatars in my own site or product?
- Yes. The avatars are generated entirely by algorithms with no third-party assets and are free for any project. The SVG files are tiny, which makes them ideal as default avatars on web pages.
- Are the names uploaded? Is it free?
- Nothing is uploaded — every avatar is generated locally in your browser. The tool is free, needs no sign-up and has no limits or watermark.
