🦸Photo to Cartoon - Turn Photos into Comic or Anime Art
Turn a portrait, pet or street photo into a cartoon. The tool first applies a guided filter for edge-preserving smoothing, flattening skin, walls and sky into clean patches while keeping outlines sharp. It then quantizes color: Color clusters uses k-means to find the handful of colors that best represent the image, giving comic-book blocks of color, while Tone bands keeps each area’s hue and splits brightness into a few steps, like the flat shading in anime. Finally a difference-of-Gaussians pass finds contours on the smoothed image and draws bold dark outlines. Start from the Comic book, Anime flat colors or Watercolor preset, or tune smoothing, number of colors, outline strength, width and detail, saturation, lightening and paper texture yourself. Adjustments preview live on a downscaled copy; the export runs at full resolution in a background worker so the page stays responsive, and batches keep their original format.

FAQ
- Which photos work best?
- Sharp subjects with even lighting and uncluttered backgrounds — front-facing portraits, pet close-ups, buildings and street scenes. Very noisy night shots or tiny images lose detail after smoothing; try less smoothing and more line detail.
- What is the difference between Color clusters and Tone bands?
- Color clusters reduces the whole picture to a few representative colors — fewer colors look more like a comic. Tone bands keeps each area’s own color and only splits brightness into steps, closer to anime-style flat shading.
- Is this AI-generated?
- No. It uses classic image-processing algorithms (guided filter, k-means and difference of Gaussians) computed in your browser. The result is a stylized version of your photo — faces and composition are not changed and no model is downloaded.
- Are my photos uploaded? Is it free?
- Nothing is uploaded; everything runs locally in your browser and is discarded when you close the page. The tool is free, needs no sign-up and has no limits or watermark.
