⌨️Typing Speed Test - Free Online WPM Test (English & Chinese)
Pick a language and a duration, then just start typing — the timer starts with your first keystroke. The passage shows correct characters and mistakes (in red) as you go and scrolls automatically, while the counters above show the time left, your live WPM, CPM and accuracy. When the test ends you get your final speed, accuracy, error count and time, plus a chart of your speed second by second, and your personal best for each language and duration is saved in this browser. Chinese mode measures characters per minute and works with Pinyin, Wubi and other input methods: letters still being composed in the IME are ignored, only committed characters count. The built-in passages are original short texts, and you can paste your own text to practise with.

FAQ
- How is WPM calculated?
- WPM (words per minute) uses the standard definition of one word = 5 characters: the number of correctly typed characters divided by 5, divided by the minutes elapsed. CPM is the number of correct characters per minute. Characters that are still wrong are not counted as speed.
- Why is my accuracy lower than expected?
- Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were correct when you typed them. If you type a wrong letter and then fix it with Backspace, the original mistake still counts — so the number reflects how cleanly you actually type, not just the final text.
- What is a good typing speed?
- Around 40 WPM is average for adults, 60+ WPM is proficient and 80+ WPM is fast; professional typists often exceed 100 WPM. Focus on accuracy first — speed improves naturally once your fingers know the keyboard without looking.
- Is my data uploaded anywhere?
- No. The test runs entirely in your browser; what you type is never sent to a server. Personal bests are stored in your browser’s local storage only, so they stay on this device.
